Story

1994

ERGO is officially launched by Robert Reed and Marlene Wagner with the purpose of understanding how stylists can avoid work related injuries as well as how consumers think and act.

1995

Strong demand by customers inspires ERGO to introduce hand made scissors and an environmentally responsible tool disinfection system called Maxima

1998

During a visit to Korea, Reed discovers a new category of styling tool, the "flat iron" and the "mini-crimping iron". Introduced to the science of tourmaline, its history and modern application to hair. Brings sample irons and various types of powdered tourmaline back for evaluation.

1999

Reed meets with several leading hair care brands to share this new styling tool category for custom production. Several artistic directors were impressed with the performance of the various types of irons but their marketing departments couldn't see the smooth hair trend developing.

2000  

After countless meetings and no takers, Reed makes the decision to produce these styling tools under the ERGO brand name. First production quantity was 120 irons. First ERGO team developed with members including Grace Alejandro, Jennie Garcia, Hien Tran.

2001

ERGO Research becomes the exclusive U.S. importer for a hair dryer brand from Paris, and helps them overcome quality control and service issues.

2002

ERGO establishes bi-coastal service centers to offer total reconditioning options for the new range of TGR and XXP dryers.

2003

ERGO Styling team expands by adding Tom King, Rik Klens, Katie Severson, Victor St. Sure.

2004

‍In partnership with the City of Hope, ERGO introduces the first "pink ribboned " hair dryer and donates 100% of its profits toward breast cancer research. $35,000 check presented during celebrity dinner during North American Hairstyling Awards.

2005-06

ERGO expands service to salons throughout America with leading distributors. Granted premium supplier status by L’Oreal, selected by Redken 5th Avenue as a supplier partner for 2006 Las Vegas Symposium. ERGO introduces the very popular and first on the market Hot Mat, industrial silicone surface protective accessory. Through Beauty Systems Group and CosmoProf stores, the all "pink" version raises $25,000.00 for City of Hope.

2007

Reed conceives smaller profile hair dryer with capabilities of ionic on/off functions. This design and performance adopted by artists for many leading hair care companies.

2008 

ERGO selected by Redken 5th Avenue as a supplier partner for 2008 Las Vegas Symposium. During the 1st stages of the economic recession, ERGO discovers a supplier selling dryers direct to consumer, in violation of contract. ERGO then discovers remaining partner factories are filing for bankruptcy. While financially healthy, ERGO can't find new factory resources fast enough to continue to meet demand.

2009

Reed makes the decision to put the ERGO brand temporarily to sleep and accept a position with the new Sam Villa styling tool company as Vice President of New Product Development. All current ERGO employees, including co-founder Marlene Wagner, obtain positions with Sam Villa.

2010

The world financial crisis continues and Reed and Wagner decide to re-think, re-purpose and redesign everything ERGO. This redevelopment process will end up taking nearly 1 1/2 years.

2011

ERGO re-launches entirely new styling tool collection, with direct to salon distribution to control its brand and educational offerings

2011

New ERGO Styling team introduced including Alan Papaleo, Ian Gavet and Chad Clark

2012

ERGO adds new team members Mitchell Cantrell and Brock Goldberg

2015

ERGO invited to present the "Art of the Blow Dry" at ISSE Long Beach. ERGO invited to present the "Art of the Blow Dry" at ABS Chicago, America’s Beauty Show. ERGO invited to present the "Art of the Blow Dry" at Premiere Orlando

2016

ERGO selected by Luxury Brand Partners to be their exclusive styling tool partner at Front Row, a hair extravaganza held in Miami. Alan Papaleo joins as Senior Artistic Director. ERGO invited to present the "Art of the Blow Dry"  at ISSE Long Beach. ERGO invited to present the "Art of the Blow Dry" at Premiere Orlando Show.

With a passionate following ERGO continues to expand and build its family of industry leading educators to serve its rapidly growing list of salon clients. Dedicated to the future of the professional beauty industry, ERGO is developing and launching innovative strategies to support the professional in making their work easier, more fun and ultimately more rewarding.
